Research themes at the Animal Genomics Laboratory, UCD
Research work at the Animal Genomics Laboratory can be broadly categorised according
to the scientific interests of the Principal Investigators.
Dr. Alex Evans
Physiology and endocrinology of reproduction in farm animals with particular interest
in ovarian follicle development including fertility, oocyte development and the regulation
of intracellular signalling pathways.
Dr. Trudee Fair
Physiology and endocrinology of reproduction in farm animals with particular interest in
ovarian follicle development including fertility, oocyte development and the regulation
of intracellular signalling pathways.
Dr. Emmeline Hill
Equine genomics including molecular signatures of selection in thoroughbred horses, genetic
diversity in horse populations and thoroughbreds, candidate genes for performance in the equine
athlete and functional genomics studies of the molecular networks and interactions among genes
that contribute to racing performance.
Dr. Pat Lonergan
Physiology and endocrinology of reproduction in farm animals with particular interest in ovarian
follicle development including fertility, oocyte development and the regulation of intracellular
signalling pathways.
Dr. David MacHugh
Functional immunogenomics of the host response to M. bovis
infection in cattle, Studies of the molecular pathways and interactions underlying African
trypanosomiasis and trypanotolerance in cattle, candidate genes for performance in farm animal
species and livestock gene mapping; in particular, identification of the gene responsible for
inherited ovine arthrogryposis.
